In starting the basic research for this topic I was admittedly unaware of the size and scope of the project. My initial hope was to look at all aspects of patronage from the Greeks and Romans through the modern day, with the emphasis being on the United States. Now I know that to do any study of this magnitude would require more time and attention than is possible.
With that in mind, I have narrowed my research topic. However, I do hope to keep this website as a resource for myself, as well as a living and growing entity, where I can continue to contribute ideas and findings within this scope of study over the course of my life and research. The topic of patronage has long been one that has fascinated me, both in a historical context and within the modernized situations that we as theater artists find ourselves in the midst of today.
On this website you will find two main sections; Renaissance England and Modern Day America. It is my hope to further study the contrasts and similarities in these two eras to find more of an educated perspective on how best to approach funding theater moving forward. I have also included a section on this website for additional points of interest within my research topic of 'patronage in theater'. Here you will find various information throughout the ages, with more of a global perspective, that will aide and support my ultimate conclusions within theater funding in the future.
